The Venue

The 2018 European Permaculture Convergence will be held at:

Knockree Youth Hostel,
County Wicklow,
Republic of Ireland

Knockree is a modern build youth hostel and centre set in the beautiful Wicklow Mountains in a unique location in the Glencree Valley facing Maulin mountain to the south-east and the ‘Sugarloaf’ mountain to the east. The Wicklow Way passes through the land below the hostel, along the banks of the picturesque Glencree River, and so the hostel is the ideal location for hillwalkers and nature lovers alike.

The hostel is just over an hour from Dublin and the nearest village is Enniskerry (7.5km) from the hostel.  Enniskerry, home to the famous Powerscourt Estate is one of the prettiest Victorian villages in Ireland.

Knockree Hostel boasts varied accommodation, including en-suite rooms, family rooms, wheelchair accessible rooms, dormitory rooms, meeting-room/conferencing area, large-capacity dining-hall, TV-relaxation room with log fire, guest kitchen.

We will also have access to the adjacent fields and are designing and building the outdoor venue, new kitchen garden to grow food for the convergence, field kitchen with camp fires, and tent camping and campervan areas with composting toilets and showers. There is lots of space to be able to cater for early risers, later sitters, families, quiet areas and general camping. There is loads of room.

How do I get there?

Car parking is fairly limited, though we can fit approximately 50 vehicles onsite we are encouraging as many as possible to use more sustainable forms of transport to the site. Car parking onsite costs €25 for the 5 days.

If coming by public transport you need to head to either Bray (the nearest large town, 11km from the venue) or Enniskerry (the nearest village, 7km from the venue). There are coaches direct from Dublin Airport to Bray High Street, and from Dublin City to both Bray or Enniskerry.

From both Bray and Enniskerry you take the Bus 185 to Shop River Terminus and it is then a 3km or 30 minute walk to the hostel. However, we will asking volunteers to shuttle people from the bus stop to site so look out for them! Please note that there is no shop at Shop River Terminus, it is just a bus stop on a lane.
There is also much more detailed travel information on the venue website.
